The GP500 head cone has the largest backing volume in the Metso cone portfolio. You need 100 – 140 liters (26 – 37 gallons) of two-component epoxy backing (Metso KrushMore, ESCOBACK 6000, Copps K-Back). Order a dedicated "GP500 Mantle Backing Kit" (typically 4–6 x 25L pails). Critical: Head cone seat must be pristine (no old backing, oil, moisture). SAG pebbles / Hard Ore (BIF, Quartzite) are work-hardened (380–480+ BHN), high-silica/abrasive, and angular. The GP500 parallel zone subjects the mantle to extreme sliding compression abrasion under massive normal force. Standard Mn18Cr2 relies on work-hardening (too slow for sliding wear) and suffers rapid micro-gouging/spalling. TiC Composite provides instant 550–620 BHN via dispersed Titanium Carbides, resisting the "sandpaper effect" of pebbles/ore sliding in the parallel zone. HP/MP Series Bowls: Shallower cavity, pivot-point geometry, hydraulic lock bowl seat, different thread/flange/bolt pattern. Result: Immediate contact/destruction of locking mechanism, ejection hazard, write-off of head cone ( 180k+) & adjustment ring ( 100k+). GP Mantle ONLY pairs with GP Bowl Liner (Same Model/Size).

1) Feed Distribution (Primary Cause): Worn/misaligned feed chute or missing rotating distributor on secondary/pebble duty feeds 70%+ load on one side.
